The Jersey Coast Heritage Museum DIGITAL ARCHIVE is a touchstone for the legacy of a by-gone era that builds awareness of our local history during the dawn of leisure time at the Jersey Shore.  Our vision, to ensure that the majesty, beauty and magic of the Jersey shore’s past is celebrated in a way that inspires its present and future.

Our goals are dedicated to preserving the history of the Highland Beach excursion resort and the 1893 William Sandlass House, currently in the NHL at NPS Sandy Hook GATEWAY, as a way to encourage place identity.  We celebrate the rich heritage of the Sandlass House, an integral part of the early family leisure destination at this once-grand resort.  We believe the interpretation, understanding, and appreciation of our shared past will foster, strengthen, and enrich our local community.

NEW DISCOVERY

Artistic renderings of Highland Beach Resort in this early advertising brochure (25 page pamphlet) were designed by Ferdinand Fish’s NYC office. The print shop was located just around the corner from Fish’s office and the owner assisted in producing the materials. The pamphlet was published, circa 1888 before the 1889 Great Switchback Rail Road roller coaster was introduced as a thrilling ride!
